Overview of Mental Illnesses/Disorders 30 days

This course is designed to provide an overview of several common mental illnesses and disorders - how they present themselves in individuals, as well as recommendations for managing someone struggling with these illnesses or disorders.  

Your law enforcement tactical training, department policies, state & local laws, and supervisor directives should all be used to guide your determination about what to do in a crisis situation.  The information in this course is provided as a guideline and informational overview; every situation is unique and must be handled with discernment and respect.  Academy Hour assumes no liability or responsibility for any individual's actions based on their interpretation of the content of the training courses provided here.

Being able to recognize the signs or symptoms of a particular mental illness or disorder can make a significant difference in how a situation or individual is managed. This course teaches the basics of what the most common mental disorders look like, and how best to interact with the individuals struggling with the disorder.

Obsessive-Compulsive
Anxiety/Panic
Suicide

Goals & Objectives:

  1. The student will gain a basic understanding of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V. 5, and how mental illnesses and disorders are diagnosed using the DSM-V.
  2. The student will learn signs of, and best responses to, individuals with a variety of mental illnesses and disorders, including Schizophrenia, PTSD/Trauma, Bipolar, Depression, Personality Disorders, Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive, Narcissism, Anxiety/Panic, Suicide
  3. Student will be able to recognize signs of a Traumatic Brain Injury and Individuals on Various Drugs, and how those affect a person’s behavior.

This enrollment provides access to the class for thirty days.
