This course discusses the causes, symptoms, risk factors, assessment & diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Goals & Objectives:
- The student will be able to identify the characteristics, definition, and basic criteria of PTSD and its diagnosis.
- The student will gain an understanding of the reasons behind mental health stigma, as well as what mental health is as a general concept.
- The student will be able to identify at least 3 elements of Trauma and how it can develop into PTSD
- The student will gain an understanding of anxiety, and how it can lead to stress
- The student will be able to identify Signs | Symptoms | Effects of anxiety and stress
- The student will be able to identify at least 2 instruments for testing for PTSD, assessing and diagnosing using the DSM-V, on a very general level.
- The student will gain an understanding of PTSD and the potential for comorbidity with other disorders
- The student will gain an understanding of the causes of suicide, signs to watch for, and elements of intervention
- The student will be able to identify measures for prevention of suicidal ideation, resilience, and be able to list at least 3 risk factors for suicidal thoughts.
- The student will be able to demonstrate the process of Debriefing to help process trauma
- The student will be able to identify at least 3 methods of Treatment for mental health disorders related to suicide
- The student will be able to identify at least 3 resources that can be provided to assist an individual with mental health challenges
