How It Works:

 

Step One:  Enroll in the training course (links at the bottom of this page). 

Step Two: Go through the online training content. You have 90 days to complete the training, with plenty of time to re-watch and review any of the sessions you need to.

Step Three: Take the certification examination. There are 75 multiple choice questions, and you must pass with a score of 80% or better. The cost of the examination is included in your training enrollment tuition fee.

Step Four: Celebrate! and go get that new job using your CAA credentials.

Training Course Agenda

This training course is designed to provide the basic essentials needed to begin an entry-level administrative assistant position, but also adds in helpful lessons on becoming an exceptional employee as well.

Your enrollment provides access to the training program for 90 days. We find that learning and retention are stronger and longer-lasting when content is absorbed within a set timeframe.

Topics covered will be:

LESSON ONE
Career options and possibilities
Expectations of an Administrative Assistant

In this lesson students will learn about possible career options of an Administrative Assistant. Students
will gain an understanding of the possibilities that can ensue with a career in administrative work. An
emphasis on expectations and work ethic are covered. Student will learn about how to display
professionalism, and are given tools to stand out in the work environment.

LESSON TWO
Basic clerical skills necessary to do the job
Software you’ll need to know and computer systems at work
Tools of the Trade

This lesson will cover basic skills needed to complete daily tasks and job requirements in an
Administrative Assistant role. Students will also acquire a list of skills and tools that will set them apart
from other assistants. Examples of this include the importance of organizational skills, typing, and
people skills. A basic software overview is introduced, to explain the importance of knowing how to use
programs frequently used in the office environment and workplace.

LESSON THREE
Standard office machine use
Mail and shipping services

Students will learn about a wide variety of office machines and the importance of knowing how to use a
variety of different machines, from a fax machine, smart phone to a laminator and much more. In
addition, learning about mail and shipping service is detailed and standard procedures for shipping and
mailing items are explained.

LESSON FOUR
Telephone skills & etiquette

This lesson gives detailed examples and guidelines for Administrative Assistants to provide exceptional
telephone skills and etiquette. Students will learn how to take messages, receive calls, provide good
customer service, and show professionalism.

LESSON FIVE
Travel arrangements

In an Administrative Assistant position a common job is to make travel arrangements. This lesson
discusses the importance of using a variety of tools and resources to successfully plan a business trip.
This lesson provides a detailed checklist for making travel arrangements.

LESSON SIX
Meeting setup
Taking meeting minutes

Meetings are a part of every business. This lesson provides examples and checklists on how to
thoroughly schedule and set up a meeting and how to take notes during a meeting. Students will also

learn about the importance to welcoming guests and how to make them feel comfortable before during
and after a meeting.

LESSON SEVEN
Organizational skills
Time management and priorities
Keeping accurate records
Appointments and calendars

Check it once, check it twice. This lesson teaches the importance of organizing all parts to the day using
checklists and organizational methods. Students are taught how to manage and prioritize their time with
a set of instructions and guidelines, all while learning how to recognize and avoid procrastination.
Specific strategies for keeping accurate records are presented. Tips and tricks for setting and organizing
appointments and how to use a calendar effectively are also taught.

LESSON EIGHT
Sorting, filing and correctly alphabetizing

This lesson gives detailed explanations on how to sort and alphabetize information and documents.
Student will learn how to alphabetize unit by unit, abbreviate names, titles, acronyms, numbers and
more.

LESSON NINE
Bookkeeping

Learning how to organize finances and money is presented in this lesson. An explanation of how to
make payments and how to accurately record those documents is taught.

LESSON TEN
People skills
Communication skills

As a top priority, having good people skills is essential to any successful business. This lesson gives the
why and the how to acquire good people skills and learning how to communicate well with co-workers
and customers.

LESSON ELEVEN
Professionalism, excellence and service

This lesson explains how important professionalism is to a business. Students will learn how to represent
the company in positive manner. An emphasis on going above and beyond using the “plus ten” rule to
ensure excellence is always a top priority. How to acquire strong customer service skills and why it is
important to have a positive service filled attitude are also presented.

LESSON TWELVE
E-mail communications
Memos / The business letter

In this lesson students will learn how to properly and professionally write emails and business letters
that represents a business in a positive way. A focus on taking time, looking for accuracy, spelling and
grammar are taught. Students will learn the dos and don’ts when using business email systems and how
to conduct themselves when writing. Students will learn the specific formats to writing a memo and the
differences between business letters, emails, and memos.

LESSON THIRTEEN
Dressing for success
Resume and interview skills

Why dress for success? This section gives us the why and teaches the do’s and don’ts of what to wear
during an interview and on the job. Students are taught etiquette and skills necessary to set oneself
apart from others interviewing for the same position. A brief introduction to resume writing for specific
jobs is also included.

LESSON FOURTEEN
A step above the rest - being exceptional

Students will have the opportunity to take a self-assessment designed to reflect on their
professionalism, reliability, work ethic and more. Lastly, a very detailed explanation on how to set
yourself apart from others with basic skills is taught. Students will engage in more than 20 thought
through, tried and true methods to displaying professionalism and etiquette.
